MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Making a Difference

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Our Cupeyville School In-Action Community Service program encourages students to give back to their community. Every year Cupeyville School supports and develops philanthropic events with the involvement of the students to make a difference for charitable organizations. Some of the organizations where we have made an impact are the Salvation Army, Manatee Conservation Center, Susan G. Komen, American Diabetes Association, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Muscular Dystrophy Association, among others.
MINDFULNESS
In 2016 we introduced our Mindfulness Program, where by students are taught Mindfulness therapeutic techniques through actual practice activities in the classroom. Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, students are taught to become aware of their feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations and how to accept and manage them.

RULER

Cupeyville School uses the RULER approach to work with social emotional learning. RULER is an evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning (SEL) developed at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. RULER supports our entire school community in:

-Understanding the value of emotions
-Building the skills of emotional intelligence

CHARACTER COUNTS
As part of our mission to prepare well rounded individuals and committed citizens for a changing society, Cupeyville School integrates different aspects of Character Education to the academic experience. These include the development of personal values, a sense of social responsibility and appreciation for diversity.

Cupeyville School has adopted Character Counts as part of the educational curriculum. Character Counts is a framework centered on basic values called the Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. This program pursues to raise student awareness and sensitivity about issues concerning personal and social improvement.

We have a strong anti-bullying program in place that focuses on prevention, awareness, intervention, and conflict resolution that responds to the needs of the school community.
Drug Free School Zone

At Cupeyville School we have a Zero Tolerance policy for illegal substances. Our school has been established as a Drug Free Zone supported by our Drug Free and Proud of it Program. We are committed to educate our students of the dangers of illegal substances. It is the full intent of our school to protect the security of all students and to take quick and decisive actions with respect to the use of illegal substances.

Our Drug Free and Proud of it Program aims to:
  • Help counteract negative peer pressure by providing students with a reason to refuse drugs.
  • Assist in fundamentally changing the culture in our school regarding tabacco, alcohol, and other drug uses.
  • To encourage students with drug problems to seek help in overcoming those problems.
Prevention Program
  • Drug testing is mandatory for High School students beginning in 9th grade.
  • Trained dogs that search and detect the presence of any illegal substances or weapons are brought to the school periodically and without notice.
  • Conferences for students and parents are delivered to provide educational opportunities about drug prevention and drug treatment.
